President Trump today withdrew from the Iran nuclear deal, saying that the international pact had only made Tehran’s “bloody ambitions more brazen” and that all sanctions that had been lifted through the pact would be reimposed.

“It’s clear to me that we cannot prevent an Iranian nuclear bomb under the decaying and rotten structure of the current agreement,” he said.

“The Iran deal is defective at its core. If we do nothing we know exactly what will happen. In a short period of time the world’s largest state sponsor of terrorism will be on the cusp of acquiring a nuclear weapon.”

He added: “The US no longer makes empty threats. When I make a promise, I keep them.
