Guayaquil enables shelters for flood victims in Cerecita

Some 30 families from the Cerecita commune were affected after the overflowing of the La Camarona river, on the road to the coast, due to heavy rain. Intense rain caused the La Camarona river to overflow and flooded the homes of some 30 families in the Cerecita commune, the Municipality of Guayaquil reported on Monday, March 15.Several cities in Ecuador have suffered havoc due to the strong winter season, 

According to a report from the rescue bodies, the epicenter of the damage is the village of El Tigre, where "there is no access to the town due to the flood level, which exceeds one and a half meters high."

"On the other side of the river there are people who cannot cross and the neighboring houses in the sector are damaged," he added. The Municipality of Guayaquil indicated that it set up shelters near the area, in order to help people who had to abandon their homes.

Vanessa Arroyo, 46, died after being run over when she was walking along the E20 Quinindé-Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas highway, on the morning of Monday 15.

The accident occurred around 11:00, while Arroyo was walking with her friend Sara Altamirano and they performed routine sports exercises. As she passed kilometer 34, in the La Independencia area, in the Quinindé canton, she was hit by a truck and died a few minutes later.
