"Eye for an eye and tooth for a tooth". We all know this biblical passage that defends the Law of Heel, that is, justice in which the punishment corresponds to the type of crime committed. From the beginning it was considered that those who had committed very serious crimes would be worthy of death. This idea reaches our days as many countries in the world continue to suffer this pain.
The death penalty can be considered as an instrument to take revenge on someone who has done something wrong. What we should not do is confuse revenge with justice. No one deserves to take away the right to life, even if that person had taken away this right of another person. It is true that this person's life is unrecoverable, and that the killer deserves punishment, but that is not a reason for becoming criminals. The authority is not obliged at any time to be the owner of anyone's life, no matter how much it invokes morals. Furthermore, in the hypothetical case that the offense was due to an error or external influence, death does not give the opportunity to return and be able to overcome and correct the negligence.
To live in the moment in which we live, in which terrorism is the subject of all meals, seems a utopia to prohibit violence. But, unfortunately, we are victims of a world based on brutality, ¿why do you believe and feed it even more? We should not criticize what we then use as a means to "do justice."
The death penalty ends the life of the offender, but the murders and other crimes will continue to happen day after day without being able to avoid it. Let's not go to the easy way, because the difficult one surely brings much more prosperity. An eye for an eye and the whole world goes blind.
