Rennty, the first platform for renting private cars with insurance

What if instead of buying more vehicles we get more out of the ones that are already there? The traditional car rental market in Colombia is being reinvented by the Collaborative Economy. This modality that promotes the exchange of goods or services from an approach of solidarity, mutual benefit and savings, is being used by Rennty, the first rental platform for private vehicles that has insurance and assistance included in the rental price.

Globally, this business model has taken giant steps in sectors such as the hotel industry, whose most recognized company, AirBnB, created a new category when choosing a hotel. Now, Rennty seeks to replicate it to rent a car, a boat or a motorcycle.

However, any owner might wonder how risky this could be or how many people would be willing to lend their vehicle in a country with such a high theft rate.

Precisely, one of the main problems faced by the company was to overcome the limitations that insurers have with this type of company and that translates into the confidence that a person may or may not have to put their vehicle at the service of others. "After much insisting, Sura, one of the most important insurers in the country, decided to listen to us and carry out a custom insurance so that the user had the peace of mind that there is support for their vehicle," says David Rodriguez, one of the founders of Rennty.

In this way, both those looking to rent and the owner find in the platform a safe option with which it is possible to earn money by sharing the vehicle. For each rent made, said insurance policy replaces the normal insurance of the vehicle in the case of damage or theft.

The company also understands that in a rapidly evolving world it is necessary that there be more and more awareness of the importance of taking care of the planet and that is where it seeks to contribute.
