Colombia must work hard in social education
“The country needs training to work in social rehabilitation and violence mediation. Social education is one that teaches us to live as citizens and live in plural and diverse societies. However, the situations that arise in Colombia make it necessary to have specialized education focused on social aspects, conflict mediation, accompaniment to displacement or migration. It is also necessary to conceive policies and programs that work on family and community education, enhancing the capacities and resources of groups and communities, advancing in the social inclusion of those especially vulnerable groups, as well as in empowering any person and group in the leisure or socio-labor insertion.”

How? Through The master's degree in Social Pedagogy seeks to improve the social conditions of people, groups and communities through an education focused on human relationships of everyday life, not on teaching and learning that occurs in the curricular of formal institutions school children For this, the pedagogical / educational approaches, presented by the curriculum, focus on the fundamentals, practices and values of social pedagogy in the set of diverse contexts and environments (social rehabilitation, community development, family scenario, etc.); as well as in all age groups during the life cycle (childhood, adolescence and youth, adults and older adults), ”described the program coordinator.
To this are added the research projects coordinated by Francisco José del Pozo, where topics such as human trafficking are addressed, a problem that is approached from prevention and monitoring at the country level and in the Caribbean region. Another initiative, which is being financed by Colciencias, is called education for peace in educational and vulnerable communities on the north coast of the country, which has allowed the construction of a culture of peace throughout the Colombian Caribbean.
Various initiatives with Uninorte have been projected from IESE and its groups: as a social rehabilitation project at the Barranquilla women's rehabilitation center and four initiatives by young researchers that are being funded by Colciencias.
