By personal initiative, and with the social responsibility of representing the Juárez University of Durango, mathematicians from the UJED’s faculty of sciences, spent their weekend crafting protective masks that will be donated to hospitals and clinics. Each mask, could be disinfected for three times, but after that, must be discarded.
“The idea is to provide doctors and nurses with masks, given the fact that they are in a vulnerable situation while attending patients at hospitals” said Ph.D. Armando Mata Romero, Headmaster of the faculty of sciences.
These masks, were created using a material known as polylactic acid (which was donated by members of the science and nursing faculties) and a 3D-printer, as well as a special software that is helpful to design the mask and calculate the amount of time and resources needed in the fabrication of each piece.
Finally, they pretend to keep working on this project for as long as they have enough resources.
