The constitution of 1931 and women’s rigths
After being written by Luis Jiménez de Asúa a socialist deputy and revised because of the protests of Clara Campoanor the constitution of 1931 conceded many rights to women.
The constitution was inspired on the ones of Méjico , (1917) , Russia (1918) and Weiman’s
Republic (1919).It prohibited the discrimination on the election of public pots (article 40).It
allowed women to be deputies ( article 53 ). Two articles were really debated , article 36 which
gave women electoral rights and the law of divorce. The first one because of fears of women
voting the right and be carried by their emocional side. The second one was critised along by
the extreme left-wing for not being enough, they though the solution was a free union and by the
right. Priest gave sermons against this law and they were imprisioned.
Now, this laws are in jeopardize civil war.
