The epidemiological studies have presented different disadvantages in the field of exposure to ENM including the lack of available background and information, but especially the current problems, in addition to the dispersion of the industry that employs this type of technology, making the collection of information more difficult. There are important advances in the implementation of biomarkers related to ENM, related to specific materials, which shows that it is necessary to carry out more epidemiological studies, as the use of nanomaterials continues to occur at a much higher frequency than monitoring performed by occupational safety and health.
It should be clarified that ENM are a consequence of human activity and may be unintentionally or deliberately generated. Those produced unintentionally are derived from industrial processes; such as flame pyrolysis of black carbon, the production of materials at high temperatures , combustion processes, pigments, among others. They can also be deliberately generated as nanotechnologies. In this case exposure can occur at all stages of
productive process.
