After the Second World War, the world is divided into two opposing blocs. The US the indisputable leader of capitalism. The growth of the USSR is based on an economy led and planned by the state, and it is exporting this model to countries under its model (1970)
The power of the US is due to its dominance in the world economy, its military superiority and its privileged position in large military alliances and international bodies. In addition, American democracy is becoming a political model.
The economic model in the Soviet bloc is based on state ownership, state interventionism and centralised planning. The USSR and other communist regimes are having high economic growth rates and are able to improve the standard of living. Discontent among the population is collapsing the system.
