The finalists of the US Open have already been defined. Rafael Nadal, second favorite and owner of three titles in New York, and Daniil Medvedev took a ticket for Sunday's grand finale. The Russian will play his first definition of Grand Slam against Spanish, nothing less.

Owner of 18 Grand Slam titles, with three in New York cement, Nadal stood as No. 2 in the world. Although his rival, the Italian Matteo Berrettini, on the rise, wasted with more than one mistake his advantages in the tiebreak of the first set, the favorite showed his badge in the most important moments and that led him to another victory.

The Spaniard, with a record of 12 crowns in the same Major, in the clay of Roland Garros, wants the 19th big title to be one just from the Swiss Roger Federer. For that he was a success, since he beat Berrettini 7-6 (6), 6-4 and 6-1 in the second semifinal of the United States Open.

Already after overcoming that pitfall of the first chapter, the left-hander of Manacor was tilting the court in his favor. With his greater strength and experience, he took advantage and advanced to his fifth final at the US Open and No. 121 of his entire professional career.

Thus he got rid of the surprise Italian, 10 years younger, who was the first man of his country in 42 years in a semifinal in that traditional contest, since Corrado Barazzutti fell in that instance, in 1977, when he lost with the local Jimmy Connors . That is why Nadal ratified his status as a candidate for the title and now he has only one step left.

In the first semifinal of Friday. Medvedev, which will rise to world No. 4 next Monday, surpassed without problems the first appearance on that wheel of a Major by beating Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov 7-6 (5), 6-4 and 6-3. Thus, the Russian ratified his great present reaching its seventh definition in the year and the fourth in a row. And he became the next adversary of Spanish, the decisive duel on Sunday.

On the hard surface, Medvedev, 23, eliminated Swiss executioner Roger Federer to be the first Russian in a Grand Slam final after Marat Safin when he won the Australian Open in 2005. In the US Open, he is the first in that instance since Safin was imposed in 2000.

In this way, Medvedev is the first man with 50 wins in 2019, already with the classification in the pocket for the first time for the London ATP Finals, where the best eight of the year will participate. He now has 12 straight wins and won 20 of his last 22 games, between Washington, Montreal, Cincinnati and this date in New York.
