9 sep 2019

This Saturday night, the official social media accounts of the emblematic Spanish singer and songwriter Camilo Sesto reported that the star of the romantic ballad died at age 72.
"Dear friends. We are very sorry to inform you that our great and dear artist Camilo Sesto has just left us. Rest in peace," says the tweet published in the official account.  That same message was shared in the official Facebook and Instagram accounts of the artist.

Hours later, Eduardo Guervos, the singer's representative, confirmed the news to the newspaper El País.  According to that means, relatives said that Camilo Sesto was admitted on Saturday afternoon (Spanish time) to the Quirón clinic, in the town of Pozuelo de Alarcón (Community of Madrid), due to kidney problems.

The newspaper El País was able to establish that around 1:30 in the morning of this Sunday (Spanish time) the singer suffered a cardiorespiratory arrest and that the doctors certified his death at 4:30 (9:30 on Saturday night  In colombia).

Through a brief statement, the official website of Camilo Sesto reported that, in effect, the singer died "after complications from a renal failure and two cardiorespiratory arrests."

Camilo Blanes Cortés - real name of the artist - was born in the Spanish town of Alcoy, in the Mediterranean province of Alicante, on September 16, 1946. Musician and composer, he studied fine arts and began his musical career as part of the group '  The Daysons', when I was just a teenager.  With 18 years he moved to Madrid to try his luck and, since then, he developed a complete musical career with the sale of millions of records.

His first album 'Something of me' was recorded in 1971 and two years later he represented Spain at the international OTI festival with the song 'Something else', a theme with which he achieved great sales success throughout Latin America.

With a total of 40 albums published, half a hundred numbers in different countries and more than 70 million copies sold, Camilo Sesto is considered one of the most important interpreters of the romantic ballad in Spain and Latin America.  He immortalized songs like 'Wild Strawberry', 'Where you are, who you are with', 'Do you want to be my lover?', 'Forgive me' and 'The love of my life'.  In 2011, he received the maximum Hispanic pride medal.
